The State Superintendent of School’s teacher advisory council is a group of teachers from across the state that meets to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting teachers in Georgia’s classrooms. The group consists of Georgia Teacher of the Year finalists, Milken Award teachers, and other teachers throughout the state. The teachers meet three times throughout the school year with State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox and are advisors that act as liaisons between the Department of Education and the teachers of Georgia. Past topics discussed by the teacher advisory council include: Georgia Performance Standards, Georgia Performance Standards Training, discipline, teacher mentoring, teacher induction, and parent involvement.
